Frequently Asked Questions
Ordering & Personalisation
-
Simply select the garment you'd like to personalise and submit your initial selections.
We'll then prepare and send your personalised Welcome Pack, allowing you to review your selections, confirm your measurements and consider every detail before your garment is individually handcrafted.
-
Your personalised Welcome Pack includes a Welcome Letter, your Personalisation Form and a detailed Measurement Guide.
Your Personalisation Form brings together the selections and information you have already provided, including photographs of your chosen fabrics, along with the additional details we need from you before your personalised invoice can be prepared, such as your measurements, delivery preferences and delivery address.
The Welcome Pack gives you the opportunity to carefully review your garment details, complete the remaining information and confirm your selections before proceeding with your order.
-
Your selected fabrics are reserved once your completed Welcome Pack has been returned and full payment of your personalised invoice has been received and cleared into our account.
Until this time, fabrics remain available and may be selected by other customers.
-
Your Welcome Pack is designed to give you time to carefully review your selections before proceeding with your order.
Minor amendments may be requested before your personalised invoice is prepared. Once full payment has been received and cleared, your selected fabrics are reserved and your garment enters our creation queue. Changes may no longer be possible after this stage.
-
Your personalised Welcome Pack is individually prepared for your order. Please allow up to 7 business days for it to be emailed.
As a small atelier, we dedicate the majority of our time to the careful creation of handcrafted garments while preparing Welcome Packs on designated administration days.

Yes, when personalising your Signature Swirl Skirt, we recommend keeping one or two alternative fabrics in mind when selecting your favourite.
Many Signature Swirl fabrics are available in limited quantities and, on very rare occasions, more than one customer may select the same fabric before it has been reserved.
Fabrics are reserved only once full payment has been received and cleared into our account. If your first-choice fabric is no longer available at that time, we will personally assist you in selecting an alternative from our current collection. If you've already chosen one or two alternative fabrics, this can help keep your creation journey moving smoothly.
Should you decide not to proceed with an alternative fabric because your original selection is no longer available before it could be reserved, we will provide a full refund of your payment. Refunds will be returned only to the same bank account from which the original payment was received.
This is the only circumstance in which Designs by Uriel will offer a refund for a change in fabric availability. Once a fabric has been reserved and your Signature Swirl Skirt enters our creation queue, payments are non-refundable, except where required under the Australian Consumer Law or as otherwise provided for within our Terms & Conditions.
Garments
-
Every customer has their own style, preferences and vision for the garment they wish to wear.
By individually handcrafting each garment after your selections have been confirmed, you're invited to become part of the creative journey - selecting the fabrics, colours and finishing details that make your garment uniquely yours.
Rather than choosing from garments already made, you'll enjoy the experience of helping create one that has been thoughtfully handcrafted especially for you.
-
Every garment is individually handcrafted using your personal measurements to create a garment that is proportioned especially for you.
Unlike rigidly tailored garments, our signature cotton-elastane waistband offers comfortable flexibility, allowing the garment to accommodate natural body movement while providing an elegant and comfortable fit.
-
Yes.
Each of our signature garment designs has its own carefully curated fabric collection, selected to complement the design, movement and character of that particular garment.
When personalising your garment, you can choose from the fabric collection created specifically for that design, allowing you to make your garment uniquely yours while ensuring the selected fabrics perform beautifully with its construction and silhouette.
As our garment collection grows, each new design will be accompanied by its own thoughtfully curated fabric selection.
-
Our signature waistband has been thoughtfully designed to provide exceptional comfort, versatility and timeless style while allowing each garment to move beautifully with you.
-
Your Welcome Pack includes additional information and illustrations to help you confidently select the waistband option that's right for you before your garment is individually handcrafted.
-
The gathering is an important part of what makes the Signature Swirl Skirt the Signature Swirl Skirt.
The skirt is made from twelve individually cut panels, creating an exceptional amount of fabric, fullness and movement. All twelve panels are gathered into a waistband individually handcrafted to your measurements.
Because so much fabric is being brought into the waistband, you should expect to see substantial gathering where the skirt joins the waistband. The seam will have a naturally wavy appearance and is not intended to look like a conventional flat waist seam.
The gathering and waviness can be more noticeable in smaller sizes because the fullness of the twelve-panel design is being gathered into a smaller waistband.
This is an expected characteristic of the Signature Swirl Skirt's construction and is part of creating the fullness and movement for which it was designed.
-
The Signature Swirl Skirt is not designed to sit flat or flush against the body below the waistband.
Its fullness begins at the waist, where the twelve panels are gathered directly into the waistband. This means you will see and feel gathering around the waist rather than having a smooth, fitted section before the skirt begins to flow.
The gathered seam may also remain visibly wavy while you are wearing your skirt. This is an expected part of the design and does not mean the skirt has been sewn incorrectly.
We know that this amount of gathering will not be everyone's preference. If you love beautiful movement and flow but prefer a skirt without this degree of gathering at the waist, you may prefer our Classic Circle Skirt.
-
During the development of the Signature Swirl Skirt, we tried different gathering methods to see whether we could reduce the waviness where the twelve-panel skirt joins the waistband.
Because of the sheer amount of fabric in this design, the methods that produced a flatter-looking seam did not give us the combination of flexibility, comfort and durability we wanted in the finished garment.
We therefore chose the construction that we believe works best for the Signature Swirl Skirt, even though this means accepting a visibly gathered and naturally wavy seam.
The waistband is designed to provide the normal stretch needed for comfortable wear and for putting on and removing your skirt. It is not designed or intended to be deliberately stretched to its maximum capacity, and the gathering should not be pulled or stretched in an attempt to make the seam sit flat.
The waviness is an expected characteristic of putting such a substantial amount of fabric into the Signature Swirl Skirt — it isn't something that needs to be stretched away.
-
Don't be surprised if the seam around your Signature Swirl Skirt looks particularly wavy when you first see it on the hanger.
There is a lot of fabric gathered into that waistband. When the skirt is hanging, there is no body inside the waistband giving it its normal worn shape. The waistband can relax and the substantial amount of gathered fabric beneath it naturally pushes, folds and curves along the seam.
The seam will still be gathered and may still look wavy when you are wearing your skirt. Wearing the skirt does not make the gathering or waviness disappear. The difference is that, when worn, your body gives the waistband its normal shape and the fullness of the skirt can fall naturally from it. On a hanger, the relaxed waistband and the weight and bulk of the gathered fabric can make those waves look much more pronounced.
That waviness is an expected part of the construction. It does not mean the skirt has been sewn incorrectly, and the gathering should not be pulled or stretched in an attempt to make the seam look flat.
The Signature Swirl Skirt was designed to be worn and enjoyed, not to look perfectly flat on a hanger.
So, please don't judge your skirt by the hanger.
Fabrics
-
Our fabrics and materials are sourced through trusted Australian suppliers and carefully selected manufacturers from Australia and around the world.
Our current collections include fabrics and materials sourced from Australia, Japan, the USA, Europe and other international sources.
Our linings are made from 100% Japanese mulberry silk, and quality European threads are selected for the construction of our garments.
Every fabric and material is carefully selected for its quality, performance and suitability for the construction and character of the garment in which it is used.
-
Wherever practical, we choose natural fibres and quality materials from trusted suppliers, carefully considering their suitability, performance and longevity.
Our approach is to select fabrics for their quality and suitability for each individual garment rather than simply following trends. Where a thoughtfully produced alternative is available and meets the requirements of the design, we will always endeavour to make that choice.
We also believe sustainability is supported by creating garments thoughtfully and individually, with a focus on quality, longevity and being worn and enjoyed for many years.
-
Every fabric in our curated collections has been carefully selected because it complements the design, movement and character of the garment it has been chosen for.
By offering thoughtfully curated collections, we can ensure every fabric performs beautifully while still allowing you to personalise your garment.
-
No.
Every fabric has its own unique character, texture and drape. While they have all been selected to complement the design of each garment, natural variations are part of what makes every handcrafted garment unique.
-
Every garment is designed with its own construction, movement and character, and not every fabric will perform in the same way across different designs.
By carefully curating a fabric collection for each garment, we can select materials that complement the way that particular design is intended to drape, move and wear.
This allows you to enjoy the freedom of choosing a fabric that reflects your individual style, with the confidence that it has been selected specifically to work beautifully with your chosen garment.
-
We make every effort to represent our fabrics as accurately as possible; however, colours may appear differently between individual screens and devices.
Your Welcome Pack will include photographs of your selected fabrics together, allowing you to review how your choices work alongside one another before proceeding with your order.
If you would prefer to see a fabric in person before making your final selection, fabric swatches are available upon request. Simply note the Fabric Codes you would like to receive and submit your request through our Contact Us page.
-
Yes.
If you would like to see a fabric in person before making your final selection, fabric swatches are available upon request.
Simply submit your request through our Contact Us page, letting us know which Fabric Codes you would like to receive. We will then contact you to confirm the details required.
Fabric swatches are supplied at cost. The current charge is $9.80 for the Australia Post Express Post satchel, plus $1.00 for each fabric swatch requested.
Once we have received the required details, we will prepare and email your fabric swatch invoice. Upon receipt of payment, your fabric swatches will be dispatched within 2 business days via Australia Post Express Post.
Please note that requesting or receiving a fabric swatch does not reserve or hold that fabric. As some of our fabrics are available in limited quantities, availability may change while you are considering your selection. Fabrics are reserved for a garment only once the garment ordering process has been completed and full payment of your personalised garment invoice has been received and cleared into our account.
-
Every fabric is carefully inspected and prepared before your garment is created. If, despite this process, an unforeseen issue with your selected fabric prevents us from completing your garment to the standard expected of Designs by Uriel, we will contact you to discuss suitable alternatives.
Should no mutually acceptable solution be reached, a full refund will be provided to the same bank account from which the original payment was received.
Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for full details.
Caring for Your Garment
-
Every garment includes detailed care recommendations, and a complete Clothing Care Guide is available on our website.

Delivery
-
As every garment is individually handcrafted, creation times may vary throughout the year.
An estimated completion timeframe will be provided as part of your ordering process. Garments are handcrafted in the order full payment is received and cleared, ensuring every creation receives the same care, time and attention it deserves.
-
Designs by Uriel accepts a limited number of garment orders at any one time so that every creation can receive the time, care and attention it deserves.
Our creation queue is carefully managed around approximately three months of forward capacity. Once this allocation has been reached, new garment requests will be temporarily paused until space becomes available.
During this time, you are welcome to continue exploring our website and Gallery, and you may subscribe to receive updates when the creation queue reopens, including news of new fabric selections as they become available.

We carefully package every garment for safe delivery throughout Australia.

For now, we have chosen to focus on serving customers within Australia.
This allows us to provide the personalised service, careful communication and attention to detail that are an important part of the experience we wish to offer every customer.
While we don't currently offer international delivery, we hope to extend our delivery service to New Zealand in the future.
-
We have chosen Australia Post as our delivery provider to keep the final stage of your creation journey simple and straightforward.
Personalising your garment involves a number of thoughtful choices, from fabrics and measurements to finishing details and delivery preferences. Rather than adding an unnecessary choice between multiple delivery providers, we offer a carefully considered selection of Australia Post services.
Using one delivery provider also allows us to maintain a consistent dispatch process, including tracking and optional Extra Cover, while giving our atelier more time to focus on the careful creation of each garment.
